David Ausbel’s Meaningful Reception Theory

 

-       Meaningful learning occurs when new experiences are related to what a learner already knows.

 

May occur through:

·         Reception

·         Rote learning

·         Discovery learning

 

The first dimension relates to the two ways by which knowledge to be learned is made more available to the learner.

The second dimension relates to the two ways by which the learner incorporates new information into his existing cognitive structure.
